Saint Charbel: a nine-day prayer journey

A novena is a period of prayer over nine days. This original journey offers an intention and a practical step each day; it does not reproduce the traditional Annaya monastery novena. A link to the monastery’s text appears in the references.

A simple rhythm

Choose a realistic time to pray each day. Entrust your intention to God, read the day’s reflection, pause in silence, and finish with the shared prayer. If you miss a day, continue calmly; this journey is neither a test nor a guarantee of a particular result.

Shared prayer

Lord Jesus, I entrust my intention and everyone I carry in my heart to you. Through Saint Charbel’s intercession, give me trust, patience, and readiness to love. Accompany me in this prayer journey and teach me to welcome your will. Amen.

Day 1 — Trust

Bring today’s concern to God. Name your intention simply, without searching for perfect words. Pause to remember that you do not have to carry everything alone.

Day 2 — Silence

Set distractions aside for a few minutes. Make room to listen rather than only asking for things. Choose a short moment of your day when you can return to this quiet.

Day 3 — Gratitude

Remember some help you received, however small. Thank God and, if possible, the person who helped. Gratitude can accompany difficulty without denying it.

Day 4 — Patience

Bring a long wait or something outside your control to prayer. Ask for patience for today’s next step. Complete one small task attentively.

Day 5 — Reconciliation

Pray about a wounded relationship. Ask for discernment about a wise step toward peace, respecting everyone’s safety and freedom. Seek advice from someone trustworthy if needed.

Day 6 — People who are ill

Pray for someone who is suffering and for their caregivers. Offer suitable help: a message, a meal, or an agreed visit. Let your presence be gentle and respectful.

Day 7 — Humility

Ask to serve without waiting for praise. Choose a useful act you can do quietly. Be willing to receive the help you need as well.

Day 8 — Hope

Remember people who are discouraged, lonely, or displaced. Pray for them and find a simple way to show care. Hope can be shared through words and actions.

Day 9 — Faithfulness

Reflect on these days without judging your emotions. Thank God for the time of prayer and choose one small habit to continue. You may share this journey with your parish community.
